I would like to announce that I am ceasing teaching scrapbooking classes for both personal and family reasons. This will be effective immediately.

If I have collected any class money for up-coming classes, this will be returned via the shop.

I thank you for your support whilst I have been teaching. I have thoroughly enjoyed our "get-togethers". I have also loved being a part of what you, as a participant have created.

Embossing Outside the Square

This class will explore the amazing versatility of embossing powders. You will learn five different techniques for using embossing powders and use this knowledge to make twinchies and tags. Your finished twinchies and tags will be used on a layout on the night.

Supplies needed:
One piece of cardstock (or patterned paper) for a background.
One photo 4" x 6" (portrait).
One 2" square of patterned paper.
Two tags of varying sizes (or lace cardstock, patterned paper scraps, flowers etc).
Alphabet for a title.
Small assortment of brads or buttons if desired, but not necessary.
Gel pen for journaling and doodling.
Paint to coordinate with your layout (for the background, or embossing powder can be used).
Sandpaper.
Wet glue.
Basic tool kit.
Heat tool if you have one.
Favourite stamp if you have one.
Favourite Cuttlebug embossing folder if you have one.

Techniques learned:
Multi layer embossing, embossed crackle, resin fresco, embossed paper, stamped embossing, twinchies, doodling, hand journaling, altered backgrounds.

Perfectly Pearlescent!

This class will delve into the wonderful world of Perfect Pearls. Class will focus on two of the endless techniques for using Perfect Pearls. We will create watercoloured tags and also a background spray. You will go home with a Mini Mister with your own concoction in it, that you will use on your background!

Supplies needed:
Three or four photos to fit across a 12" layout. Photos must be 4" high (standard size) and can be cut to your desired width.
One piece of cardstock.
One full sheet of patterned paper.
A strip of patterned paper 12" wide and at least 2" high.
Alphabet for a title (I used a transparent alpha and alcohol inked it to give it some colour).
Gel pen for journaling.
Edge distresser.
Favourite background stamp if you have one. I will have a small selection available on the night.
Basic tool kit.

Techniques learned:
Distressing, paper tearing, photo collage, inking, watercolouring, pearl spray making and application, stamping, tag making, hand journaling.

Inking It!

This class re-visits alcohol inks but uses them in an all new way. We will be using super-glossy cardstock and embossing to create a piece of unique "patterned paper" to use on our layout in class.

Supplies needed:
One photo 7" x 5" (landscape) that can be cut into 3 strips OR 3 photos 5" high and 2 - 3" wide.
One piece of cardstock for a background.
One 12" x 2" strip of patterned paper.
One piece of fabric or patterned paper.
Machine or embroidery thread.
Mat pack and hole piercer.
Alphabet for a title.
One medium - large rub-on, stamp or other embellishment.
Six buttons, brads, flowers or other embellishments.
Gel pen for journalling on your photo and a gel pen for doodling on your cardstock.
Pencil and scissors.

Techniques learned:
Alcohol ink application, embossing, colourising embossing, hand cutting, doodling, stitching.

Term 4 Class Schedule

It is time for class again and I have another series of classes planned.

This term I have four classes planned, rather than five, so that we finish before the silly season gets going and also to make room for some Christmas card and present classes.

Classes will be priced individually this term due to two classes incorporating some very costly materials in them. This will aim to keep the price low for all so that you can sample the lovely products without having to make a huge outlay on products to be able to complete the class. If you have feedback about this structure, good or bad, please feel free to talk to me about it.

Class One: alcohol inks and super-gloss
Thursday October 22nd 2009.

This class re-visits alcohol inks as they are such a versatile product. We will be using super high gloss cardstock to produce some great effects on a layout in class.

Class Two: perfect pearls
Thursday November 5th 2009

This class will cover a number of techniques for using the Ranger product, Perfect Pearls. We will make a layout using the techniques learned. You will also take home a mini-mister with a concoction of your own to use on future projects.

Class Three: Embossing outside the square

This class will focus on technique for using embossing powder to create fantastic and unique embellishments. We will use the techniques learned to make tiles and then create a layout to showcase them.

Class Four: 3 hours of power

Three hours of power incorporates simple yet effective designs to create 6 layouts in 3 hours. This class is always fast paced and fun. Full class notes mean that you can complete the night's layouts at home if you don't manage to get them done on the night.

Fast Album Formulas

In this class you will produce an album in quick time! There will be 6 double page layouts (ie, 12 layouts in total) with a unified colour scheme and simple style. This class is ideal for scrapping travel photos or for a 12 month baby album.

You will have the choice of completing a 12" x 12" album, or adapting the layouts to 6" x 6" format for a fast mini album.

Supplies needed:
Assortment of travel or baby photos. The number of photos is flexible, but allow for at least 3 photos per double page spread, if not more ( I have used a number of standard sized, shop-printed travel photos from a beach holiday many years ago).
12 pieces of cardstock in 3 complimentary colours (I have used white, beige and grey). If you are tackling a 6" x 6" album, you will only need 3 pieces of cardstock and another/chipboard for a cover.
Assortment of patterned paper to compliment your photos (I used 4 double sided patterned papers, but you could use only 2 throughout the whole album).
Mat pack and hole piercer.
Sandpaper.
Ink and favourite stamp, if you have one.
Scraps of cardstock to journal on, or journaling pre-printed onto cardstock, ready to cut into strips.
Gel pens for fake stitching and journaling.
Paint to coordinate with your colour scheme, if you have it.
Paint brush.
Foam alphabet stamps if you have them (I used the Making Memories ones).
Assortment of buttons, brads, flowers, stars to suit your theme if desired, but these are not necessary as we will be keeping the layouts simple and uncluttered.

Techniques used:
Inking, paint stamping, stamping, distressing, simple schemes, multi-photo layouts, double page layouts, fake stitching, hand journaling.

Grungy layouts

In this class we will showcase a fantastic and very addictive product called Grunge Paper. I have fallen in love with the possibilities created by this product. Come along to make a tag from Grunge Paper and then use it on a layout.

Grunge paper will be available on the night for $4.50 per sheet (usually sold in a pack of 3).

Supplies needed:
One photo 4" x 6" (portrait).
One photo 3.5" x 4" (portrait) - a standard size photo can be cut to this size easily.
One piece of low patterned paper for a background.
One piece of Grunge Paper.
One strip of patterned paper.
One piece of gauze.
Alphabet for a title.
Gel pen for journaling.
Favourite background stamp if you have one (text looks beautiful).
Favourite Glimmer Mist if you have it (I used Old Lace).
Distress Inks to match your layout if you have them (I only have a very small range - a blue, a green, red and a range of browns).
Stazon Ink if you have it (I used navy).
Colour wash if you have a favourite (I used stream and espresso).
Gell medium if you have it.
Mini Mister if you have one.
Sand paper.

Scalloped boarder punch.
Pinking shears.
Heat tool if you have one (this will make it faster on the night!).

Techniques used:

Using Alcohol Inks on Transparency
This class will cover a fun technique for using alcohol inks on transparencies.

Supplies needed:
One photo 10cm (4") in diameter.
One photo 7.5cm (3") in diameter.
One sheet of printed 12" x 12" transparency.
Scrap of transparency (does not need to be printed) to practice on.
One scrap of patterned paper.
Assorted buttons OR flowers, brads, stars etc.
Embroidery thread for button centres.
Alphabet for a title.
Permanent pen for journaling if you wish to hand write journaling, otherwise we will stamp our journaling.
If you have alcohol inks that match your colour scheme, feel free to bring them, otherwise inks and associated tools will be supplied in class.
Foam mounting tape/dimensionals.

Techniques used:
Alcohol ink technique, journaling, paper and photo shaping.

Heavy Metal

"Heavy Metal"

This class focuses on the technique of creating faux metal frames for your photos. We will make two photo frames and incorporate these into a layout. This technique is great for masculine pages, but can just as easily be adapted to create fun and funky girl pages! So as not to waste anything, we will be making some metal "tiles" for a card or another project from the left-over pieces.

Supplies needed:
Two photos, one 3" x 4" (landscape) and one 4" x 3" (portrait) or any combination that suits your photos.
One piece of cardstock.
One large alphabet for a title.
Ink to suit your layout.
Versamark if you have it.
Embossing powder if you have it.
A favourite small stamp if desired (I will have a small selection).
Needle and embroidery thread to match your chosen colour scheme (or gel pen and hole piercer).
Mat pack if you have one.
Basic tool kit.

Techniques used:
Faux metal, embossing, inking, hand stitching or fake stitching.

Flower Workshop

This week we will be doing a workshop all about flowers - girl flowers, boy flowers, paper and fabric - we will be covering a wide range of fun flowers to use in your scrapbooking. You will go home with a bag full of flowers that you have made and you could even win a technique book on how to make all of these gems (3 to win on the night)!

Cost:
$11.80 for the class kit (on top of the class fee).

Frame It - Make and Take

Weekend Inspiration Crop Night

Friday 10th July 2009

Our crop night is on again on Friday night. Stay tuned for challenges!

We are also having a make and take which includes techniques that you will be able to put into use in your scrapping, card making and off the page projects. It would make a fantastic piece of art in your scrapping space, or a gift ready for Christmas, birthdays or just because.

Our project is a square frame with four technique tiles using some great product from Keepsake Krafts. The colour scheme for the frame is cream, brown and antique copper, but this can easily be customised to suit your needs. Add some green and blue, or some purple and silver and you will have a great frame for a young person!

All items to make the cream and brown frame are included in the kit for $18.50.

If you wish to change the colour scheme, all you will need to bring is a 2" square of your favourite patterned paper (please let us know if this is your plan so we can have the right supplies on the night for your colours).

To book in for the make and take frame, or just for the crop night please ring Keepsake Krafts prior to Friday and let Renaye know you will be there!

Time For Term Three

It is that time of term again and I have been madly getting feedback so that I can schedule classes that you have had input into.

Classes have been moved to a Thursday night due to a large number of requests to do so, and will start in week two of term so that we all have time to settle into schedules again.

Single class: $15
Course of five classes: $65

Term Three, 2009

Class One: Thursday the 30th of July 2009
Workshop: flowers.
This class will be a mega workshop to make a heap of feminine and masculine flowers to grace your craft projects. It will be jam packed with ideas and techniques to make unique flowers. There will also be a bonus layout idea for you to use your newly made flowers on when you get home.

Class Two: Thursday the 13th of August 2009
Heavy metal!
This class will focus on faux metal technique, which will be used on our class layout. This technique is heaps of fun, versatile and great for masculine layouts but can equally be made to look funky and feminine for those with girls or scrapping about themselves.

Class Three: Thursday the 26th of August 2009
Transparent layout.
This class will use transparency as a background, with a twist! We will be revisiting some of our alcohol inking techniques so that you can get the most out of your inks.

Class Four: Thursday the 10th of September 2009
Grungeboard.
This layout will feature grungeboard, a fantastic type of chipboard that is extremely versatile. Wait and see what we will do with it!

Class Five: Thursday the 24th of September 2009
Fast album formulas.
This class will use a great new product to make your albums come together in super quick time. This style is great for holiday albums and baby albums where you want to get it scrapped quick, with a minimum of fuss or time.

Classes include personalised one-on-one help, full class notes with a picture of the layout for future reference, some specialised products to be used on the night, use of specialised tools specific to class, tea and coffee making facilities and a yummy supper. You will also have full access to the shop during class time.

Just a reminder that class payment is required at the time of booking and no places will be reserved without payment.

3 Hours of Power!

This class uses simple but effective schemes to complete 6 layouts. Most of the layouts include a quick technique tip so that you are learning new skills for your scrapping at the same time as getting your layouts completed.

Layout One: "Contented"/"Happy"
This layout uses repeated circles to create a visually interesting background for your layout, either from patterned paper or by including rows of stitching.

Supplies needed (based on the layout "Happy"):
One sheet of cardstock for a background.
One photo 7cm x 10cm (portrait orientation).
Two pieces of patterned paper (don't need full sheets).
One scrap of cardstock or patterned paper for journaling strips.
One alpha for a title.
One paper doily (I have some available for use in class) or other large circular embellishment/piece of patterned paper approx. 13cm in diameter.
One circular embellishment, die-cut, star etc to layer over your doily.
One paper flower or other embellishment.
Pearls or gems.
Corner rounder.
Sandpaper.
Gel pens.
Scissors.
Pencil.
Hole piercer or mat pack.
Wet glue.

Techniques used:
Sanding, hand made embellishments, hand cut circles, use of everyday items, hand journaling, fake stitching.

Layout Two: "Painting"
This layout builds on a technique learned in our first class of the term. The multi-photo layout helps get those photos scrapped faster!

Supplies needed:
Three photos 10cm high and any width to make up to 30cm wide in combination.
One piece of cardstock.
One strip of patterned paper.
One large alphabet for a title (I used one word only).
Scraps of patterned paper for circles.
Gel pen for fake stitching.
Gel pen to journal onto one of your photos.
Date stamp or sticker.
Rubons if desired.
Brads, buttons etc if desired (to alter the distressed circles).
Edge distresser.
Hole piercer and mat pack.
Sandpaper.

Techniques used:
Distress and roll, distressing, sanding, hand made embellishments, journaling onto photos.

Layout Three: "Blur"
This layout focuses on a great stamping technique to create an unusual and effective background.

Supplies needed:
One photo 6" x 4" (portrait orientation) - I trimmed mine down slightly.
One sheet of cardstock.
One notebook printed patterned paper or cardstock to mat your photo.
Scraps of patterned paper to make die-cut embellishments.
Favourite ink and glimmer mist (if you have it) to create your background.
Alphabet for a title.
Tiny alphabet stickers or a gel pen for journaling.
Gel pen for fake stitching.
Hole piercer and mat pack.
Date stamp and ink.

Techniques used:
Background stamping, die-cutting, hand made embellishments, fake stitching, journaling.

Layout Four: "Enough"
This layout focuses on telling a story with your photos (and a heap of journaling if you want to include it) and incorporates the great technique of adding a bit of pizazz to your page with foil.

Supplies needed:
Two photos 15cm x 7.5cm (landscape orientation).
Two pieces of patterned paper (one with a low pattern to mat your photos), or two pieces of cardstock for the layout "Green" (I used two of the same colour - white).
"Fab foil", glue pad and a stamp if you have them (or a strip of patterned paper 4 cm wide).
Scrap of patterned paper or a die-cut embellishment or journaling card.
Pearls or gems (or buttons, brads etc).
Ink to coordinate with your layout.
Alphabet for a title.
Stapler.
Gel pen for journaling.

Techniques used:
Inking, hand journaling, foil application.

Layout Five: "Our Family"
This layout is made up of inchies framed with a chipboard frame that has been altered using colour sprays and then crackled.

Supplies needed:
Five photos 1" square.
One piece of cardstock.
One chipboard frame that is 4 squares across and 4 squares high (or strips of chipboard, ribbon, patterned paper, embroidery thread and needle, etc, to make a frame).
Rubons (I used a combination of words, birds and branches).
One die-cut flower, star, circle (plus an eyelet for its centre), brad, button etc for an embellishment.
One string button (as per button class) with a pre-made button stitched in the centre.
One ticket stub or a scrap of patterned paper.
One patterned paper strip 17cm long.
One small rubon title or gel pens to hand write a title.
Gel pen for journaling.
One button or pre-made embellishment.
Embroidery thread.
Ink pad to coordinate (I used white for a soft look).

Techniques used:
Inchies, hand made embellishments, altering chipboard, hand journaling, inking, paper tearing.

Layout Six: "Dreams"
This layout focuses on hand made embellishments and hand journaling to tell the story of your photo.

Supplies needed:
One photo 7" x 5" (landscape).
One piece of cardstock.
One strip of patterned paper 19cm long to scallop.
Tissue paper if you have it (I have a range of colours available on the night).
Flower/star/circle embellishment (I layered two flowers and a brad).
Two gem or other fancy brads.
One embellishment to layer over the patterned paper strip.
Small title to layer over your photo.
Sandpaper.
Corner rounder.
Gel pen.
Pencil.
Scissors.

Techniques used:
Hand made embellishments, hand journaling, sanding.

This friday evening we have a kit class on again - with a twist of course! We have FOUR kits on offer. Three layout kits, one feminine and one masculine and one about you or another woman in your life, will be available. We are also offering a canvas kit, with a feminine twist which has a family oriented layout included from items left over.

All kits will be discounted if you buy them on the night.

Layout one (masculine):

Alphabet for a title if you desire (we will be using the cuttlebug and cricut on the night to cut titles).

Challenge three: everyday inspiration
Use a blog that you frequent to give you inspiration for a layout or card. You may take inspiration from the blog colours, the style of writing, or you may scrap lift a layout from the blog if it is a scrapping one. You may also choose to make a layout about why you love the blog itself and what draws you back there.

Challenge four: Sketch
Use the sketch below from Stickers 'n' fun to create a layout.

Challenge five: layout inspiration
Use the layout below (artist unknown) as inspiration for a layout of your own.

Challenge six: colour inspiration
Use a neutral colour pallete which includes "chocolate" (white, milk or dark, whichever your weakness) and add one bright colour to accent this. Some examples are red, electric blue, grass green or hot pink.

This class will focus on creating a background for your layout using inks and jazzing up transparent alphas and embellishments with a splash of inked colour.

Supplies needed:
** Apron and/or old clothes because inks stain**
One photo 19cm x 14cm (7"x5") portrait orientation.
One piece of coated cardstock, eg gloss cardstock or pearlescent cardstock (Renaye has some put aside if you would like some - colours include mid-blue, dark brown and off white).
Transparent OR shiny alphabet for a title.
Transparent embellishments (small selection).
Two strips of patterned paper.
One boarder strip, eg from Sasafrass Lass papers with the decorative edge, or patterned paper to scallop.
Two "tickets" or patterned paper or embellishment.

This class will focus on using fabric on your layouts. The fabric is used in a naive, unfinished way to create a distressed and rustic look to your page.

For the sewers and patchworkers out there, the fabric strips can be neatened and our embelishment made into a little aplique if desired!

Supplies needed:
One photo, 9cm square, or 4".
One sheet of patterned paper for an outer mat.
One piece of cardstock or low patterned paper for an inner mat.
One piece of grid patterned paper, low patterned paper or cardstock for a background.
Alphabet for a title.
Four large photo corners (chipboard, paper etc - I have altered some chipboard ones).

Weekend Inspiration Challenges

Come along to the crop night this Friday night for some fun and inspiration to get you scrapping up a storm!

Friday the 22nd of May 2009

6.30pm (shadow box tutorial is at 7.30pm) till midnight.

Complete the most challenges during the crop to be in the running for a small prize.

Challenge One:
Use the sketch below by Becky Fleck to create a double page or two single page layouts (the photo sizes stated are incorrect for a double page 12" x 12" layout) about any topic. You could also use this sketch to make two 12" x 6" layouts (this challenge is counted as two layouts to be in the running for a little prize).

Challenge Two:
Use the layout below (source unknown) as inspiration for a layout. You may take the colour scheme, the composition or a single element from the layout as inspiration to create a layout that is uniquely yours.

Challenge Three:
Use strips of patterned paper on a cardstock background to make a layout. Here's the challenge: none of the pieces of patterned paper or cardstock can be full sheets - all must be scraps (even the background, but it can be one single colour)!

Challenge Four: everyday inspiration
Winter is looming and many of us are dreading its onset. Make a layout that showcases EITHER what you LOVE or what you HATE about winter.

Challenge Five:
Create a layout and use stamps to create its title. You can use rubber, acrylic, foam or stamps you have made yourself from bubble wrap or some other household item. Think outside the square (ie, the stamps don't have to be letter stamps)!

If you are playing along at home, I would love to see some of the layouts that you create using the challenges. Just bring them into the shop or email me a pic.

Shadow Box Make and Take

Friday the 22nd of May

6.30pm opening, for a 7.30pm make and take class

$20 for a full kit with extra chipboard included to take home!

OR come for the crop night only (no make and take kit): $10

Renaye has some fantastic new shadow box frames (6" square) in store and a cool make and take has been designed around them.

All you will need to complete the frame has been bundled into a kit so that you have just the right amount of paper and chipboard to make this lovely frame. All the products needed to alter the embelishments for the frame will be made available on the night for class use also, so you will not need to outlay another cent once you have purchased your kit!

An example of the shadow box can be viewed in store. It includes a "scene" for a photo of a loved one or friend to sit in.

Please book in and pay at the store prior to friday night as there are only 5 kits remaining!

Supplies to bring:
One photo, preferrably black and white, of a person or people, that you can cut out. The ideal photo would be a full body shot of approximately 3"-4" high.
Wet glue.
Scissors.
White gel pen if you have one.
Foam tape or dimensionals if you have it.

Transparency Update

I have been searching for inkjet printable transparency sheets and have had no luck. They are not a commonly stocked item and are expensive to buy in, so I have decided to modify the layout and include hand journaling straight onto the layout. On the night, you will only need a gel pen for your journaling, rather than the printout of your journaling. I hope this has not inconvenienced anyone.

Class number two will focus on getting the most out of your stash and also making some everyday items into useful scrapbooking embelishments. This layout is full of great techniques to make your buttons and to include journaling in a fun and fresh way.

I have themed my layout to include some fun facts about my family, titled "4 facts". If you wish to also do this, you will need to print some journaling/facts related each member of your family onto a transparency sheet, leaving adequate room between each block of journaling to cut it out or align it with your photo on the layout.

The layout is in store for you to look at, to dispell any confusion!

Supplies needed:
Four photos approximately 4.5cm x 6cm (portrait orientation). Photos will need to be smaller or in landscape orientation if you are using more photos (ie, more than 4 members of your family), or could be larger if you have less members of your family.
One scrap of cardstock to mat your photos.
One sheet of patterned paper for a background.
Alphabet for a title.
Journaling printed onto a piece of A4 transparency (inkjet printable stuff), or a transparency/permanent marker to hand journal onto your transparency sheet.
Paint to match with your layout, preferably a light neutral eg, cream, white, pink etc.
Favourite ink colour.
Gel pen.
Embroidery thread in two or more colours.
Needle.
Crop-o-dile if you have one.
String, jute or twine if you have it.
Corrugated cardboard if you have it.
Newspaper.
Small eyelets.
One or two buttons (one clear flat one if you have it).
Scraps of patterned paper, cork, chipboard (shapes and plain/raw), felt, fabric, foam.
Foam tape or dimensionals.
Sandpaper.
Glimmer mist or colour wash if you have them.
Wet glue (Tombow mono-multi is my favourite).
Double sided tape.
Glossy Accents or Dimensional Magic if you have it.

Friday Inspiration crop night is on again and we are really looking forward to relaxing, chatting and perhaps doing some scrapping, with friends. We hope you can make it to the shop friday night for some fun!

Make and Take:
Our make and take will be a mini canvas that has been colourwashed. There is one example in the shop, but the possibilities are endless. This is a quick idea for a gift or as a special canvas for a child's room. The canvas can be masculine or feminine.

All materials to make the canvas will be supplied for the cost of $4.

Friday Inspiration Challenges:
These challenges were a hit last year, so we have decided to bring them back! There will be a small prize for one person attanding the crop who completes the most challenges on the night.

Challenge One:

Challenge Three:
Use this photo as inspiration for a layout. You can use any aspect of the photo to inspire you - it may be the colours, it may be the shapes, or it may be the theme. Let your imagination run wild!

This layout focuses on a newly popular technique called "distress and roll". We will use it to jazz up some patterned paper on our layout. You will also learn to make some distressed flowers using the same technique.

New Product Nights

Tuesday and Thursday night classes have been rolled into one big night on a Tuesday. This is so that we have a bigger class with a fun atmosphere for our regular classes and also so that we can make way for some kit and product nights. The product nights will cost between $20 and $50 (to be advised prior to the class) and you will go home with a full product kit, from which you will have made a great page, altered item or cards. We look forward to seeing you there.

Thinking of Term Two

Again I am planning! Term two pages are under way and I have been seeking feedback from current students in planning classes that they want and will enjoy. If you have some feedback for me, please feel free to talk to me because I would love new ideas and techniques to try out in class.

Classes will run as usual in term 2. Classes will once again start in the second week of term and run as follows:

Class One: Tuesday May 5th
Distress and roll technique class. This layout will focus on teaching this new technique to jazz up your patterned papers and you will also learn to make some distressed flowers using this technique.

Class Two: Tuesday May 19th
Button Up! This class will focus on making your own buttons and altering shop bought ones. This class is great for utilising some of your stash in an alternate way and getting the most out of it.

Class Three: Tuesday June 2nd
Inking Techniques. This class will focus on the techniques of using alcohol inks to create great backgrounds and a title.

Class Four: Tuesday June 16th
Fun with Fabric. This layout will focus on using fabric on your layouts as a background and as an accent. We will also introduce a great new paper product with the look of lace to give this layout zing.

Class Five: Tuesday June 30th
Three Hours of Power! I have received great feed-back about the 3 hours of power class that I ran last year, so I am doing it again! In this class we will make 6 layouts. Thirty minutes is allocated per layout and each one will incorporate things we have learned in class for a simple yet effective page.

This class schedule is a draft only and may be subject to change prior to the commencement of classes and may change without notice.

Friday Inspiration:
We will see the return of "Friday inspiration" (previously Friday Frenzy) in term two. An evening crop will be held in the alternate week to classes and will cost $10 for admission. We will have sketches and challenges for you to have a go at that will be posted on the blog for your inspiration, even if you can not attend the evening get together at the shop.

We are also introducing a new segment, the Friday make and take. The aim of the make and take is to provide a quick, technique focused mini-class at around 7.30 during the friday inspiration evening. Class tutorials will be provided free of charge. On some evenings you will be required to buy a kit for the class, or contribute towards the cost of materials that are being used, but this will usually only be about $5 (some classes with frames etc, may need to cost a little more, but student interest will be called for prior to this being finalised). You will go home with a finished piece of work that you have created on the night.

Some make and takes will be:
1. Mini canvas

4. Artist trading cards
5. Birthday book

Inchies and Twinchies

Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th of April

Confused? Inchies technique uses 1" squares of "goodness" to create an effective and unusual layout. Just to confuse you more, twinchies uses the same principles but 2" squares are filled with photos, embellishments and other items that you may want to include.

Supplies needed:
Five photos 1" (or 2") square. These can be individual photos, parts of a photo that has been cropped or one large photo that is trimmed into enough squares to cover the grid in this layout (think outside the square!). You can use more or less photos if desired (10 grid squares in all).
One piece of cardstock.
One scrap of cardstock for journaling.
Alphabet for a one word or short title.
Assortment of patterned paper scraps, buttons, brads, felt, flowers, tickets, fabric, etc.
Large brackets.
Embroidery thread and needle.
Neutral ink.
Gel pen for journaling.
Mat pack.
Foam mat for hole piercing (eg, 12" x 12" Midjemoo mat).
Sandpaper, hole piercer, ruler, pencil, eraser, foam tape if desired.

Farewell to a Friend

I had a distressing phone call from one of my scrapping team today, to say that she may not be returning to classes as she is moving away in the very near future. She had nothing but positive things to say about classes and gave me the ultimate compliment by saying that through our class this fortnight that I have helped to bring her closer to her Father.

I want to say a very heartfelt thank you to T. Myself and your fellow scrap buddies say farewell and safe journey (because you are in for a journey). We wish you all of the happiness you deserve.

For the Boys

As (a majority) women scrappers, we often find it easier to scrap for the girls in our life. This class is focused on scrapping effective pages for the boys in our lives - strong and clean lines, bold colour combinations and great photos of our men folk to match.

Layout one: "@ 15 m"

This layout is based on an interview or review style. For hints and tips for conducting an interview, my "Quizes and Questions" book is availabe to look at in the shop. For a review style (where a little man can not give you answers to your questions), write down some facts as answers to "stages". An example of this would be, as I have done, a review of what a child is achieving at a certain stage of development (foods eaten, milestones achieved, etc).

Supplies needed:

One photo 4” x 6” (portrait orientation).

Your interview or review Q & A pre-printed onto cardstock. The dimensions of this should be approximately 16cm wide and 22cm high. A good way to achieve this is to make a table in MS Word.

Scrap of patterned paper.

Alphabet for a short title.

Chipboard tab accent, or a scrap of patterned paper to make a tab.

Assortment of small and medium sized brads and buttons.

Three medium sized embellishments for a cluster and brads to attach if required.

Sandpaper.

Neutral coloured ink to compliment your colour scheme.

Layout two: "Faces"

This layout features paper tearing to create an uncluttered yet masculine look.

Supplies needed:

Two photos, 6” x 4” (landscape orientation).

One sheet of cardstock.

One piece of double sided patterned paper, one side light, one side dark/bold OR one piece of patterned paper and scraps for other uses.

Alphabet for a one word title.

Stars, flowers etc for accents (I used 3 transparent stars of varying sizes).

Three small brads to attach accents.

One medium sized brad as an accent.

Gel pen for journaling.

Favourite ink to coordinate with your layout.

Sandpaper.

This class celebrates the delicious warmth and long days of summer. The layout is suitable for photos with some movement in them.

Supplies needed:

One piece of cardstock for a background.
Half a piece of cardstock for the lower background.
Three or more strips of patterned paper and cardstock, 12" wide.
Scraps of lace cardstock, prefferably wave or circle pattern.
One strip of patterned transparency 12" wide (if desired).
Three medium sized fancy brads or buttons.
One large fancy brad or button.
Large alphabet for a one word title (preferably a glitter alpha, otherwise bring an alpha in the colour you desire and the alpha can be altered).
One small circular tag or journaling rub-on, stamp etc.
Gel pen for journaling.
Hole piercer.
Sandpaper.
Scissors.
A number of additional specialised supplies will be provided in class.

Techniques:

In this class we will create a layout to showcase the year just passed. Good things and bad may have happened, and remembering events that have touched our year is a special thing to do for future memories. The layout features pockets and multiple photos, with journaling and additional photos hidden away in special pockets. We will also showcase a great new product by Tim Holtz to create a textured page title.

Supplies needed:
Six - 12 photos 7cm square, that showcase the year just gone. You may like to adapt the page to feature a month in review, an event or a person in review.
One piece of neutral cardstock as a background.
One piece of patterned paper.
One piece of neutral cardstock as a foreground.
One piece of journaling notecard patterned paper, note paper patterned paper, or cardstock to make into journaling cards.
Scraps of coordinating patterned paper to make tabs.
Large chipboard brackets (or chipboard bookplate that can be cut in half to make brackets) - the colour of these is not important as we will re-colour them.
Large chipboard numbers (I used the numbers 0 and 8 as my layout is of '08 in review) - the colour is unimportant as we will re-colour these.

Christmas Photos Galore

Tuesday 10th and Thursday 12th of February 2009

In this class, we will use papers and photos cut into circles to make a layout all about christmas day. It can also be adapted to suit any theme you choose.

Supplies needed:
Four photos in 4"x6" that can be cut into 3" circles.
One piece of neutral cardstock for a background.
Two 3" squares of patterned paper.
Two 3" squares of patterned paper or cardstock to journal on (I used note paper). You could use a journaling stamp or rubon in this space with good effect.
Two alphabets for a title (I used a tiny alpha for the word "Christmas" and a transparent alpha for the word "day").
Ink for inking around photos, papers and also any embelishments that may need colouring.
Assortment of stars of other embelishments to form a cluster above your title.
Assortment of words appropriate to yout day (I used words that I had created in a text box in Word, coloured the background and printed them out from the computer). Rubons or patterned paper with words on it would be appropriate.
Scraps of paper with a metalic shine (I used bronze cardstock). You could use yellow or gold toned cardstock, or ink some in your chosen metalic.
Rubon, stamp or sticker to add the date to your layout.
Two scraps of patterned paper to make a small feature.
Fiskars shape template or Creative memories circle cutters.
Mat pack.
White gel pen for stitching (or needle and thread if you prefer) and a gel pen for journaling.

Valentines Day Mini

After you book in and pay for your class, you will be e-mailed a doccument that has a journaling template already set out for you to use as the basis of the album.

Supplies needed:
2 pieces of felt (A4).
1 sheet of patterned paper.
Journaling template printed on neutral cardstock (it is set out in A4 for ease of printing).
4-5 hearts, 1.5" square photos (of you, and you with your partner), flowers or other embelishments for inside pages.
1 flower, heart or other embelishment to decorate the cover of your album.
1 medium sized button for the cover.
Embroidery thread to sew the button onto the cover.
Sewing machine or embroidery thread to compliment your felt colour, to sew the album cover together.

Not Long 'till Classes Start!

Classes start again in only a few short weeks, which also means that our holidays are also nearly over, so if you have been a little slack with the camera, it is time to get snap happy. Of course there is an alterior motive... if you are coming to classes this term, you will need new material to scrap!

Bookings for classes in term 1 2009 have opened and you can book in and pay at Keepsake Krafts in Boulder. This term, you will need to pay for all classes in advance to secure your place, so get in fast, because first in will be guaranteed a place.

I am looking forward to seeing you in class again this term, for those seasoned scrappers and looking forward to meeting and welcoming all new participants.

2009: a sneak peek

I have been planning for 2009 already!

Classes have been scheduled for term 1 of 2009, and I hope you are as excited about the coming year of classes as I am.

Classes will start in week 2 of first term, to give everyone time to get back into school and work routines, then into some summer scrapping! Classes will continue on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7.30pm.

Sunday 8th of February, 1.30pm
"I love you because..." felt mini album.
This felt covered album gives us a medium to tell our valentine why we love them. It is based on journaling, but can also incorporate some small photos if desired.

10th - 12th of February
Christmas layout.
This class will showcase those Christmas snaps and feature circular photos, circles of patterned paper and circular journaling spots... with a twist (of course).

24th - 26th of February
2008 in Review.
This class will make use of pockets to add a lot of journaling or extra photos without cluttering your page.

10th - 12th of March
Summer Fun layout.
This layout features hand cut waves and multiple photos to showcase the fun you have had in the sun over summer.

24th - 26th of March
Scrapping the boys.
In this class we will make two layouts about the boys in our lives. One will focus on photos and journaling and the other will be based on an interview style, to get to know our boys better.

7th - 9th of April
Inchies technique layout.
This layout will be based on the fun technique of using one inch squares of photos, embelishments and papers. You will be amazed at what you can fit in 1"!

Please register your interest as soon as possible to ensure classes continue! You can begin paying for classes in January, with the $72 course payment still available, or $18 per class, in advance (I will be requiring this to reserve a spot in the new year). Payment prior to the course starting will guarantee your spot on your desired night.

A class minimum of 4 will apply in the new year, with classes being cancelled in advance if numbers are insufficient.

See Through Albums

Sunday 14th of December, 1pm

In this class we will work through the technique of using transparent medium. We will create a transparent album using one I have made as a base to work from. There is a variety of album sizes and shapes to chose from in store.

I have used a fine spray of glimmer mist on each of my pages. If you would like to have this effect too, please purchase your album in advance and spray a fine mist onto yout album's transparent pages. Spray one side, leave it to dry for a number of hours and then turn over and spray the other side if you would like a heavier coverage. WARNING: the more you spray on, the more likely you are to get runs in the glimmer mist as it sits on the surface of the transparent pages rather than soaking in like on cardstock.

You will need:
Four photos of varying sizes (small, upto 6x4).
One photo as large as the pages of your album, to use as a back page to your album.
Two or three different double sided patterned papers.
Cardstock or low patterned paper for journaling.
Rubon accents, circles, phrases, etc.
Large chipboard accents to hang from your album.

In this class we will cover an album for use as a recipe book. It is in landscape orientation and is perfect for adding your own recipes printed or hand written on A4 cardstock, with some extra trims so it fits perfectly into the ring bound album. There are also plastic pockets so that you can securely add recipes saved from magazines.

You will need:
Two pieces of patterned paper for the covers.
One piece of velvet paper for the spine.
One piece of ribbon or twill tape.
Three large accents (I used houses, but you could use almost anything).
Alphabet for the title (My title is "recipes from our home").
Ink for your edges.
Xyron little X to attach your ribbon.
A4 cardstock for Index pages and recipe pages.
Assorted cardstock and patterned paper to suit your colour scheme, to use as strips on the recipe pages.
Any special recipes printed onto your A4 cardstock in landscape orientation.
Wet glue.
Craft knife.
Paint for your chipboard accents.
Dimensional Magic.

Three Hours of Power

This class will be mamoth and heaps of fun. There ia a total of 6 layouts to complete on the night. Two layouts will be allocated to a table, you will get one hour to complete them, then we will rotate layouts to give others a chance to complete them. It will be fast paced, but heaps of fun. Full instructions have been written so don't worry if you can't complete all the layouts.

"Zoom"

You will need:

One piece of cardstock for your background.

One photo 6” x 4” (landscape).

Two strips of patterned paper 4” high.

One small grommet, jumbo brad or other accent.

Assorted small brads to attach your title and as an accent on your tab.

Assorted word, phrase and small shape rubons.

Trransparent alphabet and two large grommets for a title, or other alternative to suit your layout.

You will need:

One sheet of cardstock for a background.

One square of patterned paper or patterned journaling spot 6.3cm x 6.3cm.

You will need:

One sheet of cardstock for a background.

Two strips of patterned paper 12” long and maximum 2” high.

Assortment of 7 small photos (landscape and portrait) depicting one event, of assorted sizes, to fit across your page. If you are struggling to find enough photos, you could use 2-3 larger photos to fit across your page.

Chipboard alphabet for part of your title and rub-on alphabet for part of the title.

Rub-on journaling spot, stamp or gel pens to make a journaling feature on the bottom right hand side of your page.

Circular rub-on, stamp, or accent.

One fancy brad.

In this class we will make a recipe book from an 11"x8.5" landscape album. We will cover the outer cover and make some blank page inserts ready to write on or run through your printer. Great as a gift for someone special, male or female.

Tuesday 9th and Thursday 11th December, 7.30pm:
3 Hours of Power!

During this class we will attempt 6 (yes 6!) layouts. I have allocated 30 minutes per page and I will be encouraging everyone to keep it simple and move on as rapidly as possible. I will have full page instructions available to take home, so that you can complete any unfinished layouts after class.

Sunday 14th of December, 1pm:
Transparent Album.

In this class we will run through the technique of working with transparent medium and make an album usind my example as a base. There are a range of transparent album shapes and sizes to choose from in store.

Scrapping Your Heritage

We all have photos that are hanging around from our childhood, or those treasured photos of our parents or grandparents, that we want to scrap but don't quite know where to start. This class will focus on the technique of scrapping older photos, colour choice and preserving what we know about these precious photos.

We will make a layout about family during the class - it is ideal for family photos with parents and children, or photos of the kids together. The quote used on the page is by Michael Crichton. If you would like to use it, please bring it printed out on some cardstock, ready to cut into strips for use on your page.

Supplies needed:
Three photos, 3 1/4 " high to fit across your 12" page (eg, 3 photos of 4" wide or an assortment to fit across the page).
One piece of neutral cardstock for a background.
Quote printed out on same neutral cardstock as your background.
Small chipboard alphabet for a title (I used part of the quote - "part of a tree" - as my title).
Small chipboard brackets to frame your title.
One strip of patterned paper (or fabric, ribbon, etc) 12" long and 2" high for a boarder along the bottom of your page.
1/2 a sheet of patterned paper to make a hand-cut tree.
One strip of dark coloured cardstock (about 4-6" wide and 8" long) to make a hand-cut tree trunk.
Dark coloured ink to ink around your tree and journaling strips.
Mat pack if you have one (don't worry if you haven't, you can borrow mine).

Go Large

Using oversized embelishments can be a bit of an art - the sublime or the rediculous!

In this class we will use either hand cut or premade over-sized brackets to frame a cluster (collage style) of photo and embelishments.

We will also make a card using the same "pattern" or sketch if we have time!

Supplies needed:
One photo 3"x2" (landscape) that can be trimmed down to fit your cluster.
Two pieces of neutral cardstock (one for the layout and one for the card).
One small piece of corrugated cardstock or patterned paper (about 4" high and 2 or so wide)
One piece of felt to make brackets OR premade large brackets OR cardstock or patterned paper to cut some on the Cricut.
One die cut tag or patterned paper to make one.
One piece of wide ribbon (I used crushed velvet).
One piece of wide lace OR fabric OR felt.
Embroidery thread and needle OR gel pen for stitching (gel pen can not be used to fake stitch on felt).
Small rubon words for a title and for an accent on the photo.
Rubon flower accent OR flower and stem OR stars/masculine flowers and stem for a flower accent.
Rubon accent (I used a bird) or stamp to sit on top of the tag.
2 large brads or fancy snaps.
One small shape cut from patterned paper (I used a "fruit and veg" paper and cut out an apple as an accent).
Gel pens for journaling and journaling lines.
Hole piercer.
Mat pack.
Ink to ink the edges of your page and card.
Xyron "little x" sticker making machine if you have one.
Sandpaper.

Bring an assortment of similar little tid-bits to make your card. You will only need a very small amount because a card is only a small "canvas".

Lets Rip It!

In this class we will concentrate on learning the latest stitch and rip technique. We will go through the traditional sewn stitch and rip and then move on to the new "faux" stitch and rip, using gluing and fake stitching. We will then use this technique to create a boarder at the top and bottom of a layout.

Supplies needed:
One photo 6" x 4" (landscape).
One sheet of patterned paper for a background (neutral pattern or low pattern so that it doesn't detract from the stitch and rip feature).
One piece of notepaper style patterned paper or neutral cardstock to mat your photo and write your journaling on.
A selection of scraps of patterned paper and cardstock to match your colour scheme (about 1" x 6"). You can be bold in your choice of colours becasue you will only see a small section of the colour and pattern.
Scrap of patterned paper to make a tab.
Two strips of patterned transparency (not essential if you do not have scraps).
Alphabet for a title (I used two different styles for my two word title).
A selection of large and small brads or buttons.
Stars or flowers or other suitable accent.
Rubon boarders if desired.
Scissors.
Hole piercer.
Foam tape or dimensional stickers.
Mat pack or stitching ruler.
Gel pen for your stitching and journaling.
Sewing thread if you wish to use traditional stitch and rip technique.

Breast Cancer Research Fundraising Night

Friday 24th October 2008

Proceeds of this Friday's crop will be donated to breast cancer research.

Your $10 entry fee is a great start to our fundraising, but please don't stop there - you are welcome to give more if you wish, buy a pin or buy some of Jodene Tripp's cards for sale in the shop, of which she is donating half the purchase price to breast cancer research.

We have all been touched in some way by cancer and what a great time to remember generously that every little bit of help is greatly appreceited by the research institute and by sufferers who benefit every day by research conducted in the past and present.

On the night, get into the spirit of things by wearing pink, scrapping with pink and bringing some pink nibbles to share!

Class Two: hand cut layout

In this class we will focus on using just the basics from our tool kit. When you are travelling and want to scrap, but don't have the supplies, fall abck on the basics!

Supplies needed:
One photo 5"x7" (portrait).
One full sheet of patterned paper as a background.
One sheet of plain cardstock for boarders and flowers and to mat your photo.
One strip of patterned paper, prefferably with a stem and leaf pattern on it for a strip and also flower stems (stems can me cut by hand or with the cricut if needed).
One strip of ribbon, minimum 12" long.
One A4 sheet of felt for a strip and flowers.
2 large buttons for flower centres.
5 small buttons as an accent.
5 small brads for an accent.
Small to medium alpha for a title.
Small seed beads (available from Chez's Crafty Affair in Boulder).
Small to medium chipboard accent to overlap the photo (I used the image of a flying bird).
Embroidery thread in two colours for stitching on the patterned paper background, in the buttons and across the felt.

In this class, we will work with one of the beautiful Kaiser butterfly albums to create a lovely feminine album for a special girl in your life.

Prior to the class, please paint all edges of the album in a neutral colour that coordinates with your chosen papers. In my example, I have painted my edges white (as can be seen in the sneak peek).

Two strips of cardstock to put through the cuttlebug (both different colours - I used red and white).
Three strips of patterned paper in a neutral or background pattern, or cardstock (two pieces of one colour and one of another colour - I used two of green basic grey textured plain cardstock and one blue patterned paper).
Two strips of patterned paper (I used a multicoloured stripe).
Two strips of printed transparency.
One journaling stamp or journaling rubon.
One chipboard flower accent or other suitable accent (my flower is about 4" tall with the flower and stem).
One chipboard flower about 1".
Two chipboard bookplates.
Two rectangles of chipboard (from the centre of the bookplates) as an accent and a title (as seen in the sneak peek).

Masking Your Journaling Stamps

Journaling is such an important part of creating a lasting memory, rather than just a pretty page. In this class you will learn how to use masking to create effective journaling spots so that you can add your "story" to your pretty page with ease.

Supplied Needed:
Two small photos, around 3" x 4" or smaller, that can be easily overlapped.
One piece of patterned paper for a background.
One piece of neutral cardstock.
One scrap of patterned paper 12" wide to make two strips.
Remainder of your lace cardstock from class four.
Alphabet for a title.
Six small brads (I used 4 round ones to highlight quote marks and two small square oned to accent my photos).
Three medium to large brads, gems, buttons or small flowers, etc.
Ink to coordinate if you have particular colour requirements (other than my basic neutral colours).

Bazzill Basics paper company have a new range of "bling" on the market! We will use this cardstock range as the basis of a page all about you. We will use a "She" quote by Kobi Yamada as the journaling and fun embelishments to make the page extra special for you. The page can also be adapted to suit a male or a child if you wish!

Supplies needed:
Bazzill Bling birthstone cardstock (available on the night).
One piece of cardstock or patterned paper with a shaped edge (to be cut down to size).
One piece of patterned paper for a background.
One piece of patterned paper to make bracketts.
Ink to define the edges of your bracketts.
The letters "SHE" for your title (or "HE" if you are doing a masculine page).
Two photos EXACTLY THE SAME in 4" x 3" (portrait orientation).
A range of embelishments to complement your page (I used paper and felt flowers, clear acetate butterflies and flowers with kindy glitz on them, buttons and large glitter brads). For a masculine page you could use stars and circles with buttons, brads and eyelets.
Gel pen in a colour to complement your page, for journaling.
Embroidery thread and a needle.
Mat pack if you have one.
Hole piercer.
Foam tape to raise your photo.

This was a great class. It was challenging for me to teach because I had 2 pages going in the class, but this was fun and made class interresting! Also, great job M who completed 3 pages on the night! Or was it 4? Most people mounted their 6 x 12 layout on 12 x 12 cardstock for ease of storage in their album, but every single one looked fantastic.

In this technique focused class, you will learn how to cover chipboard and wood shapes with paper. This technique can be used to cover any firm, shaped , flat product. One of the most popular applications is to cover chipboard alphabets. This means you can buy one alpha and convert it to any colour or pattern you want!

You will work with one of the wood mini albums by Kaiser, covering it with patterned paper and adding photos and embelishments for a fantastic keepsake.

Supplies Needed:
Kaiser mini album in the shape of your choice (can be purchased on the night - between $5 and $10).
Three to four sheets of patterned paper to cover album pages.
One sheet of cardstock to mat photos.
Three to six photos that can be trimmed down to fit varying sized pages (preferably smaller than 6 X 4).
Ribbon.
Brads or buttons.
Flowers, stars, etc to embelish pages.
Gel pens for journaling.
Alphabet for a title.
Paint brush.
Wet glue (preferably Tombow mono multi in the white squeeze bottle with green lids).

Funking it up with Basic Grey

Friday Night Frenzy

Renaye is holding a crop night at Keepsake Krafts tomorrow night (1st August 2008) from 6pm until 12 midnight. There is room for 12 happy scrappers and spots are filling up fast, so ring to book your seat now!

I am setting a series of challenges for the night. I will offer some small prizes for the person to complete the most and some fun challenges along the way!

Creating Movement

This class focuses on creating movement in your layout. It is ideal to emphasise photos with movement already in them - photos of bubbles, splashes, kids or pets on the move, photos with movement blur or photos with the subject on the move OUT of them (we all have them right?).

Supplies Needed:

One photo 6x4" (landscape).
Two sheets of cardstock in contrasting colours.
One strip of patterned paper 12" long (good use for a scrap - I used black with pale spots)
Two pieces of patterned paper scraps (for circles).
One scrap of cardstock (for circles).
Small to mid-sized alphabet for a title (i hand wrote my title in white pen).
Flowers / stars etc as a accent.
Large brads for flower centres / accents.
Epoxy accents / rub-ons etc for accents.
Favourite journaling stamp if you have one.
Co-ordinating ink (for journaling stamp and also for inking around circles).
Fiskars circle template if you have one.
White gel pen (or one to co-ordinate with your cardstock) if you have it.
Ruler.
Scissors.
Pencil.
Sandpaper.

Class 1 (22 & 24 July):

Class 2 (5 &7 Aug):
Creating Movement: this class will focus on photos of the kids, pets or yourself on the move - moving out of the photo, splashing, making bubbles, hula hooping etc. We will use shapes and flow in the layout to create the feeling of moving with the pictures.

Class 3 (19 & 21 Aug):
6" x 12" layout using Basic Grey products: this layout will focus on a narrower size to mix things up, give you inspiration and help you get pages done faster (less space may mean less time once you get into it)! Keepsake Krafts will have discounted Basic Grey products for sale on the night.

Class 4 (2 &4 Sept):
Using lace cardstock: This is a great product but can be intimidating because it is "holey". We will make a layout that uses some lace cardstock to funk it up!

Class 5 (16 &18 Sept):
Using journaling stamps as a background: Use journaling stamps to mat your photos, creating an interesting background for your layout.

"Cuttlebugging" your layouts!

Welcome to all scrappers who will be taking classes in term three! We hope to have a fantastic time again this term!

Class One (22nd and 24th of July 2008)

For this layout we will use the Cuttlebug to texturise patterned paper (or coredinations cardstock) and cut shapes and emboss them. You can also use the Cuttlebug to cut your title if you want (it slices nicely through chipboard too)! We will funk up the background using the new and gorgeous Glimmer Mist and templates by Tattered Angels.

The shop will be open from 7.15pm if you need to quickly pick up some supplies on the night.

Supplies Needed:
Four (4) photos 2" x 3" in landscape OR photos that can be cropped to this size (I have used black and white photos of my 2 children together).
One plain cardstock in a dark colour for a background mat.
One plain cardstock in a mid-tone colour for using Glimmer Mist on.
One double sided patterned paper OR one piece of coordinating Coredinations cardstock.

Tiny alpha or small rubons for journaling.

I was thoroughly impressed that students gave it a go scrapping about themselves. It is a great process for us to undergo, so that our children, family and friends have a lasting memory of us. So often we scrap about others and forget ourselves, such an important part of the process!

Sorry, but again I only have one class photo. My camera was nowhere to be found monday night and the tuesday class had wet items on their pages, so they couldn't be held up! Thanks to all classes for a great time and to thursday for gracing the blog with your lovely pages.

Many people feel confronted by scrapbooking about themselves, so I have designes a layout about ourselves or another important female in our lives that incorporates a "She" quote by Kobi Yamada. Three photos of yourself or another female in your life - 2" x 3" in portrait layout.

I think students were initially a little daunted by the thought of scrapping on something that they could see through, but really, transparencies are just like any other piece of paper and when they are finished, transparent layouts look just awesome!

Sketch Challenge

I made three pages from the feature sketch, just to show the classes how versatile it was. Above is one of them! This class was great fun and the variations on the sketch were fantastic to see. I loved it that people added their own spin and a helping of creative flair. Thanks to everyone for such inspiring layouts.

There is only one class photo to show for this round - not everyone on Monday managed to get their pages finished and I forgot to take a photo of Tuesday night. So, here is the lonely photo of Thursday night!

Class Four

Working with Transparencies:

This fortnight we will be using Hambly transparencies to make a funky layout. We will use a basic grid composition, which mirrors the grid on the transparency. Transparency sheets in teal or black mini grid will be available from me, during class three, over the next week.

Masculine version: this layout uses lots of red and shades of green.

Feminine version: this layout uses a combination of teal, pink and orange.

Sorry about the poor photos of these layouts, but my camera really struggled with photographing a see-thru layout! (the joys of a happy snapper!)

Supplies needed:
Three photos that can be cut down to 3" square
A combination of cardstock and patterned paper to make six 2" squares (it is ideal to use up some scraps). For the masculine layout, I used two different coloured pieces of cardstock and one neutral patterned paper. For the feminine layout, I used three different patterned papers that all had shades of pink and orange in them.
Buttons.
Pearls or gems.
Tiny flowers.
Chipboard/felt/foam stars/hearts/circles/flowers as a larger accent (about 5 of varying sizes, or components to cut it out on my cuttlebug eg foam, felt, etc).
One pre-made tab or paper/cardstock to make a tab.
One circular accent slightly smaller than 2" or an alternative for a small title or feature (I used a pre-made circle for the masculine layout and a simple flower on a chipboard circle, that I added a pearl and some rubons to, for the feminine layout).
Arrows/flowers if desired as added embelishments.
Cotton bud (only one).
Edge distresser if you have one.
Stampin' Up mat pack if you have one.

Techniques Used:
This class will build on techniques already learned, such as sanding, edge distressing, inking and paper piercing.

Our Tuesday class was the last in the series to complete my take on a Zina Wright layout - "Looking out the window". This was a fun group and I think we actually talked more than we scrapped (is that possible?)! Every one did get their pages finished though, so that is a real achievement.

Catching Up

I had two lovely ladies come around this morning to catch up with the first class, which they both missed. We had a great time and the pages were great. Thanks also for your feedback ladies. Sketch It!

You will all have been emailed a copy of the sketch for this fortnight’s class (If not, please contact me and I will get a copy to you)

A sketch is just like a plan for a new garden: the ideas for the structure (placement) or shapes or textures of the plants are there, all you have to do is decide on the actual items you are going to place in the spaces (tree types, shrubs etc). Thus, all the elements of a layout are in place in the sketch, all you have to do is put them together using a little (or a lot) of your own personal style.

Supplies required:
one large photo (5” x 7” portrait orientation or larger that can be cut to fit your layout),
3 small photos that can be cut to a minimum of 2” square,
one piece of patterned paper as a background,
one piece of plain cardstock for a photo mat / space for journaling,
alphabet for a title, ribbon / paper strip etc to run across the base of the block of photos,
brads / buttons etc to fix on ribbon,
small embellishments as a feature between 2 of the small photos (eg, buttons, stars, hearts, acetate accents),
journaling to fill about 3-4 short lines.

The idea of the sketch is to make it your own, so please play around with the elements on the layout, techniques you can use and also the orientation (way up it goes) to come up with a layout that is uniquely yours.

Looking Out the Window

Another great round of classes. As groups get to know one another I think people are coming out of their shells and we are having some great laughs - thanks ladies! The pages that are being made are amazing. I can't believe how different a layout can look when you vary the papers and photos. All layouts are a source of inspiration to me too.

Monday Night:
Unfortunately no one in the monday night class got their page finished, but they were all well on their way. I would love to see the finished layouts in the next class!

Thursday Night:
Everyone got their hand made embelishments finished in this class - I think it really helped that we had the aid of the cuttlebug for some cutting out. Great job ladies.

Our next class: using a sketch as the starting point of a page layout. A sketch is like a house plan - it gives you the basic structure of a page but then you choose your own colours and features. I am looking forward to seeing the interpretations of the chosen sketch.

Embelish it!

This class will focus on making your own embelishments and making purchased embellishments your own. We will work with felt, foam and ribbon to make a take on a fantastic Zina Wright layout. This will also continue with the "scrap lifting" theme.

Supplies to bring:
Three photos in 4 x 6 (Portrait) OR two 6 x 4 photos in landscape that are in sequence or tell one story.
One piece of patterned paper for a background.
One piece of patterned paper for a photo mat (to frame your photos).
One piece of neutral cardstock.
Alphabet for a title.
Buttons, gems, pearls, brads etc to decorate hand made flowers, stars and hearts.
A needle for stitching (if you have one).
Ribbon if you would like to make some ribbon flowers or ribbon clusters.

Techniques used:
Hand drawn and cut scalloped edging.
Doodling.
Hand made pieced and stitched embelishments.
Painted journaling lines.

Fun But "Distressing"!

The first class was heaps of fun. Thanks to the fantastic scrappers that came along. We got out the Heidi Swapp distressing tools and distressed to our hearts' content. Scrapbooking Classes

I am starting scrapbooking classes from my home this term. I am really excited and hope that they are very much enjoyed.

I will run a course of 5 classes over the 10 week term. Classes will start in the second week of term and run on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday night, fortnightly. Please book in early for your preferred night to reserve your spot because there has been some keen interest.

Price: $15 per class (to be paid in advance to reserve your spot) which includes the class with one on one help, all tools that you will need (apart from your favourite adhesive), some supplies that may be difficult to source and a yummy supper.

Class size: max of 6 people and min of 4.

Location: My home in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, at my kitchen table!

Class one: Scraplifting a layout.

I want to legitimise the process of "lifting" a layout and encourage people to have fun making a page idea their own.

Supplies to bring:
One 4"x6" photo in portrait.
Adhesive.
One neutral cardstock for the background and one coordinating cardstock.
One patterned paper for a photo mat.
Alphabet (and rubon alpha if desired) for a title.
ribbon or coordinating paper strips and embelishments as desired.

Techniques Used:
Paper piecing.
Distressing using sandpaper and a distressing tool.
Hand journaling using strips.

No need to be scared! Transparencies are a very versatile medium and create really funky backgrounds for a layout. We will run through the whole process of creating this see through layout.

Class Five: Journaling From the Heart

In this class we will run through some popular styles of integrating your journaling into your page. We will work with some "She" quotes by Kobi Yamada to create a page just for you.
